Buffalo Bills: Percy Harvin says Seahawks felt threatened by him

It’s fair to say that Percy Harvin has been a model citizen so far for the Buffalo Bills. However, you still worry that there is an underlying specter of “mischief” just waiting to burst out into the open.

In that respect, Harvin’s appearance on ESPN’s First Take made for required viewing. And he didn’t disappoint.

Of particular interest, was the wide receiver’s comments, when asked to explain the difference between his current situation and the one in Seattle. Unsurprisingly, he feels more appreciated in Buffalo.

Harvin said: “My teammates (in Buffalo) accept me a little more. What I mean by that, I felt when I went to Seattle a lot of the receivers kind of took me as a threat rather than accepting me as a teammate.”

Now, it could be ever so easy to side with the Seahawks receivers here. I mean, why wouldn’t you feel threatened by someone who reportedly punches you and even bodyslams you, WWE style.

However, let’s give Harvin the benefit of the doubt, as he gave his version of what happened: “I pulled them to the side several times after seeing a couple of the comments they was making to the media, ‘Hey, guys, I’m here to ball with you, I’m here to take us to the next level.’

“A lot of guys were looking at they were established and they didn’t need any help. I just took it as I never was kind of accepted in the receiver group by all the members.”

The main issue with the 2009 first round draft picks (first) take, is that this isn’t the only time he’s had issues. He’s apparently clashed repeatedly with coaches, hence why the Bills will be his fourth team in four seasons.

For his part, Harvin admits he could have handled the Seattle situation better, but still clearly feels resentment for how things turned out. It will be up to him to channel this in a positive way, and in turn benefit both himself and the Bills.

On his day, the Chesapeake, Virginia native can be an explosive threat. Look no further than Super Bowl 48, when he scored on a stunning 87-yard kickoff return, while adding one catch and a game-high 45 rushing yards.

Unfortunately, those moments have been in short supply of late, not helped by durability issues in recent seasons. Make no mistake about it, the Bills in many ways represent the last chance saloon for Harvin.

As such, it will be interesting to see how the mercurial receiver does in 2015, especially as the next two years of his contract can be voided. Obviously, head coach Rex Ryan will be hoping Harvin only causes headaches for the opposition during the upcoming season.
