So coming into the defensive side of things, there were 25 spots available to allot to the defensive side since the offensive side of the ball took 28 up for themselves, based on our calculations.
The defensive line is bringing 8 to the party, with the linebackers coming with 6 total. This puts the defensive side at 14 right now. The cornerbacks and safeties will have 6 and 4 respectively. This would equal 24 with only one spot available for the two kickers we have listed.
We are over our mark of 53 for the roster.
Looking back to see where another spot could be made available, maybe the Buffalo Bills only take 7 defensive lineman into the season or they only go 2 quarterbacks. Maybe they only go with 3 running backs. There are some options as to who will go into the season and who will not.
Another option that we did not take a look at, especially for some of the younger players that are eligible, is the use of the practice squad. They have the ability to put 10 players on the practice squad as well, but they have to be within 2 years of the league and have only been active for so many games to be eligible for the practice squad. We could see some of these players end up there in order to keep some of the older and more experienced players as well as keep the active roster down at the 53 man limit.
