The Buffalo Bills surprised some when they decided to make cornerback Ronald Darby of Florida State University their selection with their first overall selection (second round, no. 50 overall) in the 2015 NFL draft.  Although some had believed offensive tackle Jake Fisher was the better option at the time, fans have began warming up to the idea of Darby being a Bill.

More from Buffalo Bills News

Now, just a couple months after being, fans are attacking him not for his play on the field but for his judgement and freedom to express on Twitter.

News recently broke out about Florida State University quarterback De’Andre Johnson assaulting a female at a bar in Tallahassee after the bar released a video of the incident.  In the video you can see the female first swinging at Johnson, and Johnson then retaliating.

Johnson has since been released from the Seminoles football team, and Darby isn’t happy about the move.

His tweets have since been deleted since deciding to go to the social media platform to question the dismissal.  His response can be seen at the link provided and below:

"What I want to know is whats happening the girl that clearly hit De’andre first?  It’s never right to hit a girl at all but they have to get some kind of consequence as well.  Yall can’t keep letting females provoke guys in all ways then walk free.  Like? – Ronald Darby"

Darby certainly has a point and the right to his personal opinion.  He, like you and me, all have a right to express our views in any way that seems fit.  He, however, is held to a higher standard by fans due to his stature of playing in the National Football League.  Sometimes it’s not the best case scenario – regardless of it being his right – to express his views over a touchy subject over the internet as it can come back to hurt not only his reputation but that also of the organization.

Fans have been on his case since his tweets broke out.

Darby has since responded to those fans.

Darby is handling this situation like a true professional.  Those fans that have enough sense to realize that are also reaching out in support of their new cornerback.

If you’re curious, Darby did follow Adam Veith back.  He’s now one of the 43 followers Darby currently has.

Make sure to return to BuffaLowDown every Tuesday as I’ll be giving Darby the positive attention he asks for and deserves.
