Buffalo Bills Circling The Wagons: Quarterback Competition

With the long holiday weekend, not a lot of extra news coming out from One Bills Drive about the Buffalo Bills as most of it was covered through the weekend.  As the Buffalo Bills begin their OTAs this week and will go for 2 more weeks after this, we will begin to see some of the position battles begin to shape up.  Coaches are allowed on the fields now and they can run plays, but there is not physical contact still at this point.

Here are your daily links from around the web for your Buffalo Bills.

NFL new extra point rules and open-air stadiums

"One of the major pieces of news to come out of the NFL owners’ meetings recently was the decision to increase the length of extra-point attempts, turning a 19-yard kick into a 33-yard kick. The goal is to make the point-after try at least marginally more difficult; kickers in today’s NFL are still good enough to make the longer kicks with relative ease, but it’s not as automatic as the shorter ones. A point to think about in the aftermath of the change is how it affects teams who play in open-air stadiums in windy locales (like, say, Orchard Park). Do these teams need to pay a premium to make sure they have a top-notch kicker, or can they keep going about business as usual? More importantly, how good have kickers become at handling adverse weather conditions? For the purposes of this exercise, “field goals” henceforth refers to kicks attempted from 33 or fewer yards out."

Bills players join Honor Flight

"Two Buffalo Bills players spent their Memorial Day in the nation’s capital. Running Back Fred Jackson and Defensive End Manny Lawson joined veterans on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. on Monday. Honor Flight Buffalo flies America’s veterans at no charge to the nation’s Capital to visit those memorial’s dedicated to honor their sacrifices."

Report: Buffalo Bills quarterback competition is even

"Rex Ryan was hired by the Buffalo Bills this offseason in order to help take them over the hump and into the postseason. It is going to be a very interesting season for the Bills, but they’ll need to figure out who their starting quarterback is going to be. According to a report from Pro Football Talk, the Bills don’t currently have a front-runner for the job and all of their quarterbacks have an equal chance as of right now. Needless to say, the Bills have to make the right decision at the quarterback position. They have two options in particular that are expected to be their top two quarterbacks, and those two players are Matt Cassel and E.J. Manuel."
