The Buffalo Bills appear to be a finalist for HBO’s Hard Knocks. The question is…should they? Should the Bills invite the long popular NFL reality show out to St. John Fisher College this summer? What is the upside? Is there an upside? The Bills have said no but, should they seriously consider it?
Well, if recent history is any lesson the answer is a resounding…”no!”
Since Rex Ryan made his first appearance in 2010 as the coach of the New York Jets, HBO has (for the post part) done nothing for the team that invited them in. Oh sure the 2013 Cincinnati Bengals made the playoffs and they got bounced out in the wild-card round. Yep, it has been some interesting and sometimes even compelling television…if it wasn’t you’re team under the HBO microscope.

Give me one good reason for inviting them into the Bills’ locker room. Is it so we can see that
EJ Manuelis struggling at quarterback? He’s not developing, and it looks like we will be gong with
Matt Cassel. Don’t worry HBO I’ll be watching the preseason games, I won’t need your coverage in order to figure that out.
Is it so they can follow Richie Incognito around to see if he’ll smash a lunch tray over a teammates head? Is it so we can get a quote from our rock star first year head coach? If Marcel Darues has not signed a contract extension, can that be the “behind the scenes” drama that captivates the audience during the hot summer nights of August?
Your right, there is no upside to inviting these intruders into the locker room and onto the practice field.
We are trying to get to the playoffs here people. We don’t need any distractions. What goes on in the locker room needs to stay in the locker room. Rex Ryan makes himself available to the media, and it is must see TV. I don’t need to see Rex meeting with his coaches trying to decide if we are keeping an extra D-tackle or the wide-out who plays well on special teams.
I can go to training camp and see for myself, or failing that, I can wait until opening day against the Indianapolis Colts.
HBO stay out! Don’t need you, don’t want you! The Buffalo Bills have enough burdens trying to rid themselves of this playoff draught. We don’t need you sticking a camera in everybody’s face.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love HBO’s Hard Knocks. I just don’t want them snooping around my team. Take your cameras down to Houston or Washington and help derail their seasons.
Buffalo does not need your kind of help!
