1. Laken Tomlinson, Guard, Duke
After a strong showing at the Reese’s Senior Bowl and a solid combine performance, Tomlinson rose up draft charts. He’s regarded as one of the best guards available in the draft behind Brandon Scherff and Cameron Erving.
During the Senior Bowl, what impressed most was Tomlinson’s ability to hold his own against the best nose tackle available in this impressive 2015 draft class: Danny Shelton. He’s a force against the run (something Buffalo will covet in Greg Roman’s offense) and an anchor in pass protection.
As they stand right now the Bills’ biggest need is at the guard position. Currently they have Richie Incognito as an expected starter with the other guard spot up for grabs. Barring injury, Tomlinson would fill that other spot from day one.
There’s a strong possibility that Tomlinson won’t be around once Buffalo’s pick rolls around. I’ve seen him mocked in the as high as the first round and as low as the third round.
In case he’s gone, Buffalo will have a back-up plan in place.
