The Buffalo Bills have released that they are meeting with Safety Dawan Landry.  Landry is coming into his 10th season as a safety in the league and is quite familiar with Rex Ryan and his defenses.

Out of his 9 years in the league, Dawan Landry started with the Baltimore Ravens in 2006 and was there for 5 years.  In 2011, Landry headed over to Jacksonville and played with the Jaguars for 2 years.  In 2013, Dawan made a move to rejoin his former defensive coordinator who was the current head coach for the New York Jets, Rex Ryan, and had played for the New York Jets for the last two years.

He is now a free agent and the Rex Ryan effect is still drawing people to the Buffalo Bills.

Dawan Landry is very familiar with the Ryan defense’s that have been present both when he was the defensive coordinator in Baltimore before he took the head coaching job in 2009 for New York, and he also knows the New York style defense from the head coach in his last two seasons.  There is familiarity there and experience.  Not a real big learning curve.

With Aaron Williams set as the strong safety in the current defense, Dawan Landry would look to be coming in to compete for the free safety position, one that Da’ Norris Searcy occupied after Jairus Byrd decided on flying to what he would have thought were greener pastures.

Da’Norris Searcy was able to step in and make an impact last year at the safety position, but Dawan Landry is one that will be able to give Duke Williams and Jonathan Meeks a run for their money at the other safety position, and might even have a leg up in the competition as he knows the defense already.

I don’t think that this would be a bad move for the Buffalo Bills, especially with Landry being able to help coach the defense and has eyes over the entire defense and the alignment of where they are at.  That could speed up the learning of Dennis Thurman and Rex Ryan’s defense, which by the way is the 3rd defense that this defense has seen in the past 3 years, so a little consistency might help a bit.
