Buffalo Bills Draft Prospects: Tre’ Jackson

The next player that we will be taking a look at is Tre’ Jackson for a possible draft pick for the Buffalo Bills come the 2nd round, 50th pick of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Tre’ Jackson is out of Florida State and is graded as a 5.84 which lands him in the area of a possible NFL starter.

Jackson is 6’4″ tall and weighs 330 pounds.  A 40 yard dash is not so much in the works as a tracking device for offensive lineman, but Jackson ran a 5.52 40.  There is no breakdown of bench press reps at this point for him, he did compete in the broad jump and vertical leap of which he finished with a 96.0 and 25.0 respectively for both jumps.

At Florida State, Jackson stated in 42 games and appeared in 49 total games.  He was named Team South MVP at the Senior Bowl and was also tagged as a unanimous All-American and was named to the first team All-ACC for two straight years (2013-2014).

Some of his strengths and weaknesses as per NFL.com’s draft player profile are…

"Leverage and strength to stand and steer defenders in confined spaces. Stays flat-footed and balanced at point of impact in pass pro. Deliberate, controlled climb to second level. Power to jolt in his hands.Fleshy midsection with excess weight potentially affecting foot quickness. Loses feet sliding to pick up rushers. Will duck head into block on contact. Limited effectiveness in space. Inconsistent performer this season.– NFL.com"

There is some issue with his production dropping from last year to this year, which may have cost him a spot or two in the upcoming draft.  He has been compared to Justin Blalock.

NFL.com’s bottom line comes down to this…

"Three-year starter on a line full of wide-bodies, Jackson entered the 2014 season as one of the top-rated guard prospects, but failed to distinguish himself. Has the talent to be a dependable, quality NFL starter, but he needs to work on weight and conditioning in order to improve his feet and reach his potential.– NFL.com"

As far as Buffalo is concerned, he does have good size for a guard but is pushing to the heavier side of things as well.  He might be an option come late April/early May for the Buffalo Bills if they are looking for a guard to plug in. Tre’ Jackson won’t be a plug and play starter, so for the Buffalo Bills, he might be more of a depth guy, if they have an idea of who their starter might be.
