To add tot he excitement, the Buffalo Bills came to terms with LeSean McCoy, one of their most recent trade transactions, in a move that will extend McCoy and his services here in Buffalo for another 5 years.
LeSean McCoy had reportedly, not liked the trade and was questioned as to whether or not he would even come to Buffalo willing. The Buffalo Bills in a reply statement to that had said that they were going to me LeSean McCoy feel at home. And they did.
McCoy comes out of this deal smelling like roses. In a league where an elite running back is not necessarily needed to have a good offense, but that is usually when the team has an above average quarterback, the Buffalo Bills put the money where their mouth was in terms of them sticking to the ground and pound philosophy.
LeSean McCoy has restructured his existing contract as well as extended it. He has signed for 5 years for a total of 40 million dollars. Of that 40 million, 26.5 of it is guaranteed money. Over the first two years he will make 21.05 million. This year along he will make 16 million. Now the nice thing about resigning LeSean McCoy is that the Buffalo Bills were set on paying at 10 million for this year with no guaranteed money for next year. The restructuring provides a longer contract, guaranteed money next year and if actually saves the Buffalo Bills 4 million in cap space this year, only paying out 6 million rather than 10 million against the cap this year even though he is scheduled to get 16 million this year.
Not only does this move free up cap space but it also LeSean McCoy up for 5 years to play in the Red, White and Blue.
Can you remember the last time that players restructured contracts willing in Buffalo and big name players coming into their prime signed willing in Buffalo? It has been a long time coming and the Buffalo Bills are not done yet. Wait for free agency to start at 4 PM tomorrow and see what splashes they can make.
