The Bills did just that and were able to take advantage of a struggling Jets team beating them 43-23. The Jets did not look good, but did have a change of pace when Geno Smith was pulled in place of Michael Vick. Vick was able to move the ball which could have turned the game for them, but the Bills were able to come out in the second half, with adjustments, and contain Michael Vick.
The Bills defense was able to cause 6 turnovers during the game; 2 fumbles and 4 interceptions. Each of the Jets quarterbacks had 3 turnovers. The Bills defense played pretty well having to deal with a quarterback change in the 1st half to half to deal with Michael Vick for the rest of the game and handled him very well. I really have no issues with the defensive play yesterday.
The offense was able to take advantage on some of the opportunities that the defense provided them but were not able to take advantage on all of them. The Bills were able to put up 5 touchdowns but only had a 66% conversion rating in the red zone. The offense struggled in some areas, and they have been the same areas all season so far. The 3rd down percentage at one point was 1 of 9. They finally finished with a 3 of 12 conversion on 3rd down; 25% – REALLY!? This is going to hurt the Bills in games late in the year when they play the Broncos, Packers, and Patriots.
Another area of contention that I saw the Bills had trouble with was, again, the offensive line. For the most part, the offensive line was decent, but still had some blocking issues on both passing and running plays. You do have to look at the players they were going against as well and the Jets do have a decent from line on defense so all in all not too bad but there still needs to be some adjustment to give Orton some more time back there as well as open up some holes for the backs. The Bills were only able to gain 66 yards on the ground.
As far as an overall view of the game, the Bills won and that is the important thing. The defense played well and the offense was able to put the ball in the endzone 5 times. Offensive line needs work and the 3rd down percentage needs work as well. Good solid win for the Bills going into their Bye Week to get set up for the second half of the season.
