Yesterday, the Saints relieved three players of their duties and said that they were not going to resign another. These four players are Jonathan Vilma, Roman Harper, Will Smith and former Buffalo Bills CB Jabari Greer.
With Greer being cut, would the Bills be interested in bring his services back to Buffalo? Greer, in my opinion, was let go as a grievous error on the Bills part. I was more than frustrated when he was let go.
His services are now available. He is coming off of an ACL tear and as reported by Ian Rapoport, this makes him eligible for 1.05 million in injury protection benefits as well as an injury grievance.
For those of you that don’t know the logistics with the injury protection benefits, here is a short overview.
"The Injury Protection Benefit is a benefit available to a player if he meets the following criteria: (1) Suffers an injury in an NFL game or practice which causes him to be unable to play in all or part of the last game of the season of injury, or, which results in club-authorized offseason surgery; (2) Undergoes reasonable and customary club-required rehabilitation in the offseason following the injury; and (3) Fails the club’s preseason physical for the season following the injury and his contract is terminated. The injury protection benefit was greatly enhanced in the 2011 CBA. During the first year after the year of injury, a player is guaranteed 50 percent of his salary, up to $1 million, if a contract is in place for that year. The previous maximum was $300,000. The injury protection benefit was also expanded, and a player is now guaranteed 30 percent of his salary, up to $500,000, in the second year after the injury if he has a contract in place for that year."
Would Greer be a welcome addition to the secondary for the Buffalo Bills? If he was added, this is what we would have has our back four, accepting that Byrd is brought back. Gilmore and Greer at CB and Williams and Byrd at Safety. That back four may be one of the best in the league. Also, don’t forget about McKelvin being your nickel back, who had probably one of his best years last year.
If this occurs, and the Bills pick up a possible DE such as Peppers or Ware, as we looked at a couple of days ago, I think that the defense at this point is in fantastic position to score more points than our offense does. When the defense scores points, you win games. Plain and Simple.
What are your thoughts on Greer coming back to Buffalo?
