As we inch closer to the start of the 2025 NFL regular season, we have to finish preseason first. There's one more preseason game for the Buffalo Bills and it's the final opportunity for lesser-known guys on the roster to prove they're worth keeping around.
There are two Bills players in particular who seemed to have inched their way closer to making it onto the roster, something that might not have been the case just a few weeks ago. Let's look at two Bills sleepers who are closing in on a roster spot.
WR Tyrell Shavers
What's working against Tyrell Shavers here is that the Bills tend to only keep five wide receivers on their roster. That being said, he's worked hard this summer and offers the ability to help out on special teams and can play all three receiver spots. That versatility could end up helping him make the team.
So far in preseason, Shavers has stood out as much as he can considering Josh Allen isn't the main one throwing the ball to him. In the shutout loss to Chicago, Shavers was second on the team in receiving yards with 29 off two catches. The week before, he led the team in receiving yards with 70 off of two grabs.
Shavers has put in the work and might end up being rewarded for it. Again though, if the Bills only opt to keep five receivers as they so often do, he might be the odd one out.
CB Jordan Hancock
A fifth-round pick has a better shot at making the roster than most but it's not always a given. The Bills spent a fifth-round pick on Jordan Hancock in this year's draft hoping that the Ohio State product would have something to offer them in the secondary.
Fortunately, he's been playing quite well so far this summer. In the same ways that Shavers' versatility could help him land on the roster, Hancock could be a similar story. He's spent time at nickel corner and safety in training camp and has looked decent in both roles. That's a big weapon to have, especially as the season progresses and players have more wear-and-tear on them.
Again, fifth-round picks tend to be considered safer bets to make the roster but there was no guarantee with Hancock given the depth the Bills had in their secondary. His performance this summer, however, has made it pretty difficult to cut him though.
