The 2026 season for the Buffalo Bills will be a test to see where this team will be heading for the Joe Brady era. For the past nine seasons, it’s been Sean McDermott leading the way for the Bills. Despite lots of regular season success and completely turning around the culture, it wasn’t enough as the Bills failed to reach the Super Bowl under his control.

There are still mixed emotions about the Bills choosing Joe Brady to lead the team, but with his experience in the building since 2022 and having one of the best overall offenses in the league, Brady will get the chance to elevate the overall team now.

Even though the Bills made some big changes this past offseason, they are still nowhere near a rebuild and are very much Super Bowl contenders. It’s a big task for Brady to accomplish what McDermott couldn’t, but he will get his shot.

While the Bills are heading into 2026 as contenders, they have two opponents on their schedule that are being told to “embrace a major tank” by Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone.

Bills could have advantages against these 2 teams in 2026 season

Scataglia listed six teams heading into the 2026 season who should be looking to embrace a potential tank to help build for their futures. Two of those opponents are the Miami Dolphins and the Minnesota Vikings, both who will face the Bills during the season.

Obviously, the Bills will face off against Miami twice a year (Week 11 & Week 17) and then they will head to Minnesota to take on the Vikings in Week 9 on Monday Night Football.

The Dolphins have shown the entire NFL world that they are already embracing a big tank within the organization. Most of the core players from the last few seasons are no longer there, one of them being Tua Tagovailoa. Even though the Dolphins ended up releasing Tua, they still signed Malik Willis to a three-year deal, who has played some good football but not as a consistent starter.

As for the Vikings, saying that they should embrace a tank is quite surprising considering that Kevin O’Connell is one of the best offensive minds in the game. At the same time, the quarterback position is not great and the Vikings made the mistake to not bring back Sam Darnold and trust JJ McCarthy last season.

McCarthy dealt with injuries and had some bad performances to the point where the team brought in Kyler Murray on a one-year deal. However, Murray isn’t exactly a star either as his last few seasons in Arizona were underwhelming which led to his release.

With the Bills set to take on both of these teams in the middle of the season, we will have a great idea on where they are at as an organization and if both Miami and Minnesota get off to bad starts to the point where making a playoff push seems unlikely, the Bills may have advantages going into these matchups.
