Marcell Dareus spent his Halloween giving back to the Buffalo community, sharing candy, sailor hats and wisdom.

You were a fool if you thought Marcell Dareus wouldn’t show up wearing his sailor’s hat.

Some people were out getting candy, while others were at home giving it. Buffalo Bills‘ defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was doing both on Monday when he visited two Boys & Girls Clubs located in downtown Buffalo.

  • Dareus took the afternoon to give candy as well as customized sailor hats for the kids at the Masten and William C. Baird BCG Clubhouses — which totaled over 70 kids living below the poverty line in Buffalo. Not only was it thoughtful of Dareus, but it shows how much this community really means to him and the Buffalo Bills.

Dareus missed the first 7 games of the season — four to suspension, three to injury — and has faced a lot of criticism since training camp. However, it’s clear that he is ready to turn the page to the next chapter and continue to be a great role model for kids around the world.

During his visit to the Boys & Girls Clubs yesterday, he even spent the time to speak to the kids about his childhood growing up and how to lead your own life.

“My message is that no matter what goes on in someone’s life, you’re the captain of your own ship,” said Marcell Dareus. “Everyone makes their own decisions and when they aren’t the best ones, you figure out a better course of action and do the best you can. As long as you do that, don’t be afraid to be yourself.”

It’s great that Dareus knows the effect he has on kids and is willing to take time out of his day to help make a difference in those kids’ lives.

“Giving back to kids in the community means the world to me,” Dareus continued. “I’m in a position where I can speak to kids, spend time with them and give them words to encourage them. It feels good.”

Marcell Dareus and the Buffalo Bills have a long week to prepare for their next matchup, which is Monday night vs. the Seattle Seahawks. It will be an important road game right before the Bills’ bye week.

Sitting at 4-4, every game is a key game from here on out. Having Dareus back in uniform will most definitely be of huge help for Buffalo.

Many people are saying we won’t make the playoffs but I always say, “Dare-us”.
