Buffalo Bills Draft Prospects: Rory “Busta” Anderson

facebooktwitterreddit

The Buffalo Bills could be looking for a tight end come the NFL Draft in about 9 days.  With a similar style in Charles Clay and MarQueis Gray, being hybrid tight ends, do the Buffalo Bills look at a strictly blocking tight end, like they had with Lee Smith, that they let go, for the additional depth a thte position?

Rory Anderson, prefers “Busta”, is a tight end that will be a blocking tight end during his time in the NFL.  He has a draft grade of 5.41, placing him as a potential NFL special teams player or back-up.  What has hurt Anderson is the fact that he has had a number of injuries.  He has torn both of his biceps and has injured his hamstring back in 2013.  The bicep injuries occurred last year, where he tore one during spring drills and missed the first two games of the season and the other came at the end of the year where he had to miss the bowl game that South Carolina played in.

Some strengths and weaknesses for Rory Anderson are…

"Impressive athlete. Outstanding play speed as tight end. Can get over top of middle linebackers for big, vertical plays. Can generate a level of uncertainty from defender with his route running. Linebackers with middling athleticism have no shot of sticking with him. Has feel for sinking into safe spots of zone. Has juice out of his breaks to generate throwing window for quarterback. Pure athleticism to be yardage collector after the catch. High-point catcher with up-and-over hops to create mismatches in red zone. Can line up anywhere on the field.Allows throws to get into his body and struggled with consistency of his hands as a pass-catcher. Needs to put himself between defender and the throw more regularly. Shows some concentration lapses near the sideline. Needs to add more bulk to be able to handle in-line blocking responsibilities.– NFL.com"

Rory Anderson is being compared to Ladarius Green.  He is being projected to be drafted in the 5th round.  It looks as though he would be a depth player for just about any team that is interested in him and will primarily be a blocking tight end during his career.

The bottom line on Rory Anderson is…

"Anderson’s athleticism and play speed is what NFL teams dream of when looking for tight ends to threaten vertically and create matchup problems underneath. While he needs to add more weight to his frame, Anderson shows the blocking fundamentals to be considered a legitimate combination tight end in the NFL. Anderson’s biggest concern on draft day and beyond looks like it could be his recurring triceps injuries.– NFL.com"

As far as a 5th round pick for the Buffalo Bills, his injury history is quite a turn off.  I think that there might be better options as far as depth goes when it comes to the tight end spot, even into the 6th round, where the Buffalo Bills will have 2 picks to bring in some more depth, unless they decide to trade away for picks next year.
