No one can deny the fact that the offense for the Buffalo Bills has looked unstoppable behind the greatness of Josh Allen. Through the first two games, the Bills have scored 36+ points in each game and that included against a tough Houston Texans defense. Then four days later, the Bills put up 41 points in the debut of their new Highmark Stadium against the Detroit Lions.
While the offense is flying, the defense under Jim Leonhard is still coming together in a new 3-4 scheme. Now granted, they have made some nice plays through the first two games, but they have allowed 62 total points. The Bills can't keep allowing Allen to be the main reason why they win games, but it's trending in that direction. Hopefully Leonhard can fix that this week against the Chargers.
Bills' defense is due for confidence boost going into Week 3
Lou Scataglia of NFL Spin Zone put together an early preview of Week 3 predictions across the league, and the Bills find themselves winning convincingly that shows the offense continuing their dominance, but also the defense cleaning up from the last two weeks.
Scataglia has the Bills beat the Chargers, 35-20 which would be the best performance by Buffalo's defense.
"This could be a perfect game for Buffalo's defense to have a breakout performance, as both Arizona and Las Vegas' defenses feasted on the Chargers. This would also then likely open up a few more possessions for the Allen-led Bills offense to throw a ton of points on the board." said Scataglia.
"This is also a game that the Bills simply cannot lose given the high expectations they have, even with a new head coach. Buffalo wins this one by double-digits and gets out to a 3-0 start." Scataglia added.
Week 3 gives Bills' defense massive opportunity to make a statement
Don't get me wrong, the defense has had some bright moments against the Texans and Lions. Week 1 was a close win but the Bills managed to stop C.J. Stroud late in the game to seal the deal. Then in Week 2 against Jared Goff and the Lions, the Bills' defense only allowed 10 points. However, they gave up three touchdowns in the second half.
In Scataglia's score predicition, giving up only 20 points to a weak Chargers offense would be a great sign that Buffalo's defense is starting to turn things around. Through the Chargers' first two games, they have scored a combined 28 points. Their offense looks completely lost, and they don't seem to be playing with any confidence.
Buffalo needs to capitalize on the Chargers' weaknesses and send them back to the west coast with an 0-3 record, but the defense has to play a role in the win. It can't just be the Josh Allen show once again.
