Even before the NFL schedule was officially released, the Buffalo Bills should have already known that their schedule was not going to be easy. Even though they won’t be playing a first-place schedule (because they finished second in the division last season), they still have some tough opponents on their hands.
With a new head coach, new-look roster and overall new vibes coming into this season, the pressure is on for the Bills and their first matchup couldn’t be a tougher opponent. They will be heading down to Houston to take on a Texans team that completely embarrassed them last season.
The score was close, but the game certainly wasn’t. Josh Allen was constantly being chased around by the defense. He was hit 12 times and brought down 8 times. The duo of Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter had a combined 4.5 sacks against Allen. Then on the other side of the ball, it was Davis Mills that led the Texans offense to do just enough to squeak out the win.
It was Buffalo's worst game last season, and now they will be heading back to Houston to kick off the Joe Brady era in a place that they have no luck in.
Bills already projected to lose in Week 1 vs. Texans (and it's very possible)
Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone recently put together a list of teams that are “already guaranteed to win in Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season” and the Texans are listed as one of them against the Bills.
"Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills owns a 1-3 record against the Houston Texans with 3 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, and a horrid passer rating of 74. Furthermore, Buffalo was in Houston on November 20th during the 2025 season, and lost that game." said Scataglia.
"Allen is a superstar quarterback, but he does tend to have those head-scratching games a small handful of times per year. This Week 1 matchup against Houston could be one of those games. The Bills get off on the wrong foot in our Week 1 NFL predictions." Scataglia added.
The defense for the Texans is already elite, and there is no reason why they should slow down. Once again, the defensive line should very much be after Allen. As for their offense, C.J. Stroud will be going up against a new-look defense and that could take some time for the Bills’ unit to click. This is a perfect time for Stroud to take advantage of the new-look defense that will be going through growing pains early on.
You never want to doubt your favorite team, and when it comes to the Bills, they play their best when they are doubted. At the same time, the Texans have always been a problem for the Bills and that pattern could continue early on this season.
