Little did Buffalo Bills fans know that once the team traded for cornerback Rasul Douglas in the middle of the 2023 season, it would bring a lot more stability in the secondary that had taken so many hits with injuries. Even though Douglas couldn’t do it, he did everything he could and more with very little time to study the playbook as much as possible.

In nine games that season, Douglas made an impact with four interceptions, two fumble recoveries, eight pass deflections, and a pick-six return for a touchdown. With Tre’Davious White tearing his achilles earlier in the season, Douglas was becoming the clear-cut CB1 for the Bills. With a duo of him and Christian Benford, White was eventually released by the Bills.

Last season was a bit of a different story with Douglas. He wasn’t bad, he just didn’t pick up where he left off in 2023. According to Pro Football Reference, Douglas allowed a 72.9% completion rate, 12 yards per target, and 4 touchdowns. It was a step back in production and even though the Bills had a major need at cornerback entering the offseason, it was hard imagining him coming back to the Bills.

Buffalo opted to bring back Tre’Davious White, extend Christian Benford, and draft three corners in the NFL Draft, headlined by Maxwell Hairston out of Kentucky. While the Bills have moved on, Douglas still remains a free agent as training camp approaches.

Rasul Douglas has yet to be signed as 2025 season approaches

While it’s not surprising to see the Bills and Douglas not re-unite, it’s a little shocking that Douglas hasn’t signed with any team, especially a contender. He will be 30 years old right before the start of the season and he still provides a lot of value. Maybe he’s waiting for the right opportunity or a certain dollar amount. However, the longer he waits, the tougher it could be to get a job.

At the same, Douglas might also be an injury signing if a team loses a player for a significant time heading into the season. With preseason starting next month, Douglas could be a value signing to any team, especially if they are a Super Bowl contender.
