The Buffalo Bills are already under a ton of pressure heading into the 2026 season simply because of the new era that they have put themselves in. It’s no longer Sean McDermott leading the team, it’s Joe Brady. It’s not longer a 4-2-5 defense, it’s a 3-4 under Jim Leonhard.
Change was needed within the Bills, but it can also be scary. While the Bills are already dealing with the changes that they have made this past offseason, they also have to deal with getting ready for Week 1 where they will be on the road to take on the Houston Texans.
For anyone that watched Week 12 Thursday Night Football last season, you know that the Texans completely ripped apart the Bills, despite the score only being a difference of four points.
Even with not having C.J. Stroud under center, the Texans offense still managed to do enough against Buffalo’s defense with Davis Mills leading the way. However, the big storyline was how much Houston’s defense was disrupting Josh Allen and the offense.
Texans looking to repeat last year's performance against Bills in 2026
The Texans defense managed to hit Allen 12 times, and sack him 8 times which caused them to fall out of sync throughout the game. Allen didn’t get in the endzone once and he had two turnovers. Even though James Cook had a solid 100+ yard game to go with a touchdown, it wasn’t enough to get the win.
Now with Houston returning a lot of their defensive talent, they will be looking to start off strong in Week 1 when they welcome Allen and the Bills. We already knew that the Texans were going to be a handful for Buffalo, but now they have just added yet more defensive help which should scare the Bills.
Texans add EDGE Jadeveon Clowney (and Bills fans need to be concerned)
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Texans have agreed to terms to bring in Jadeveon Clowney, who they drafted No. 1 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Clowney spent the first five seasons of his career with the Texans, and would then go on to play with the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, and Dallas Cowboys.
Last season with the Cowboys, Clowney recorded 8.5 sacks and in the past three seasons, Clowney has racked up 23.5 sacks. While he hasn’t reached double digit sacks in a season, he is a solid rotational edge rusher who can help stop the run.
The duo of Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter was already enough for the Bills. Now they add Clowney to the mix and all of a sudden, the Bills’ job to win in Houston just became even harder. Bills fans should have already been nervous for Houston's pass rush. Now they should be scared with the Clowney addition.
