Through the first month of the season, the Buffalo Bills find themselves undefeated at 4-0 and they will be back at home for a third consecutive game on Sunday Night Football. They will welcome a very familiar team that used to dominate them for nearly two decades; the New England Patriots.
However, the Bills have had the laughs over the Patriots since 2020, only dropping three games to them, including last year’s very pointless Week 18 game where the Pats played themselves out of the No. 1 overall pick. The Patriots come into Week 5 at 2-2, in second place behind the Bills.
New England is in a bit of a rebuild but with a head coach like Mike Vrabel and a promising young quarterback in Drake Maye, they could do some damage later on this season and moving forward.
Under the lights in Orchard Park, the world will get the chance to see a Bills vs. Patriots primetime matchup which will feature three former Bills making a return to Buffalo.
3 former Bills who will take on Buffalo in Week 5
WR Stefon Diggs
Let’s start with the biggest storyline for this game. Stefon Diggs, who was with the Bills from 2020-2023, will make his first return to Buffalo for the first time since being traded to the Houston Texans last year. We cannot deny the greatness that Diggs brought to the Bills and how he helped elevate Josh Allen. At the same time, we cannot deny that the tenure between Diggs and the Bills was very tense.
Once Buffalo was winning games without Diggs’ contributions, the writing was on the wall for his future with the team. Don’t think that Diggs won’t want the ball and do some damage against this Bills defense that has been bad to start out the season.
WR Mack Hollins
The Bills signed Mack Hollins last offseason and was the perfect teammate and player for the organization. He has a great personality and was all about the team's success. He was beloved by the players, coaches, and community. He led the Bills with 5 receiving touchdowns last season and he joined the Patriots in free agency.
CB Alex Austin
The Bills drafted Alex Austin in the 7th round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but he never played a game with them. He started out his career in Houston, but then joined the Patriots in 2023 which is where he has been since. Austin has been off to a rough start this season, allowing 81.8% of pass completions and giving up 12.5 yards per reception, per Pro Football Reference.
