Whether fans want to admit it or not, the Buffalo Bills have a lot more questions than answers despite being at 4-2 entering their bye. After winning the first four games of the season, the Bills have dropped back-to-back games (both on primetime) with their latest one being against the Atlanta Falcons.

Buffalo lost 24-14, but for everyone that was watching, the Bills are lucky that it wasn’t by more. People can say what they want about the Bills only scoring one touchdown in the second half, let’s not forget the whole reason why the Bills’ offense had to play catch up; Buffalo’s defense.

This entire season, Buffalo’s defense has been bad, especially against the run. They are giving up 156 rushing yards per game, which includes two games of giving up 200+ yards on the ground. Any running back going up against Buffalo should have a great game because of the lack of production Buffalo has had.

Sean McDermott says the quiet part out loud about Bills' defense

After Buffalo’s loss against the Falcons, Sean McDermott spoke with the media and discussed how the run defense for the Bills has to improve. According to Alex Brasky, McDermott said that “It comes down to the run defense” and how the Bills had “eight-man run fronts to stop the run.” McDermott also said that players “shouldn’t be out of gaps to begin with.”

Through six games, Buffalo’s run-defense has not been good at all. Despite the Bills making all sorts of changes and additions this past offseason, they don’t look great at all. While they will get Larry Ogunjobi and Michael Hoecht back from suspension, who knows if they will make any kind of difference on the defensive line.

The Bills are going into their bye week so the extra rest should help them. However, Buffalo has to make some changes if they want to keep their Super Bowl window open. Right now, the Bills are not playing like a Super Bowl caliber team. Right now, they are just a team looking up at the Patriots in the AFC East.
