When you compare the season the Buffalo Bills had last season to this season, it’s very different. Don’t get me wrong, one common factor that each team has is that they have a winning record, but fans are more concerned at this point now than they were last season.
For example, the Bills won the AFC East in Week 13 last season after dominating the 49ers on Sunday Night Football. This season, they find themselves on the verge of getting knocked out of the playoff picture this coming Sunday if things don’t go their way.
The Bills have gone 3-4 since starting starting the season 4-0, and two of their losses have come in their last three games. You could make an argument about just almost anything as to why the Bills have slowly started to slip away, but one factor that is being overlooked is the turnovers.
Latest stat shows Bills must focus on protecting the ball better
Russell S. Baxter from NFL Spin Zone brought up an interesting point that has contributed to the Bills’ mini-downfall this season compared to last year. Baxter talked about how in each of the Bills’ last three games, they have turned the ball over three times making it nine giveaways the last three games against the Dolphins, Buccaneers, and Texans.
"It’s a team that has turned over the ball more times in their last three games than it did during the entire 2024 season. The reigning AFC East champion Buffalo Bills have given up the rock three times in each of their last three contests. That’s nine miscues for a team that tied an NFL single-season record a year ago when Sean McDermott’s club coughed up the ball eight times. Quarterback Josh Allen had all of those turnovers last season, and he has now given up the ball 11 times (9 interceptions, 2 lost fumbles) in ‘25."Russell S. Baxter, NFL Spin Zone
Don’t get me wrong, both the offense and defense deserve a good amount of the blame for some of the losses, specifically with the playcalling and overall lack of production. At the same time, it’s extremely hard to win in the NFL if a team loses the turnover battle. The fact that Buffalo has more turnovers in their last three games than they did all year long last season is a huge problem going into December.
Even at 7-4, this is not a Bills team that fans can be confident in. Unless Buffalo makes a big 180-spin starting this Sunday against Pittsburgh, they will be lucky to even be in the playoffs.
