Seahawks' success turned Bills' Marshawn Lynch trade into franchise regret

With the NFL trade deadline approaching, one of the worst trades the Bills made was understandable...at the time.

The NFL trade deadline is approaching this coming Tuesday at 4PM EST, and Bills fans are hoping that Brandon Beane pulls off a move to improve the roster somehow to take advantage of the open championship window that they have.

Infact, all contenders should be looking to add if they can. That's where Buffalo has to be aggressive, especially when it comes to improving the defense.

Buffalo wasn't in a position where they were a contender looking to improve their team. There was a time when they were near the bottom of the league, and they have made trades for various reasons with some of the better players. One of those trades involved running back Marshawn Lynch, in which Cody Williams from FanSided.com listed as the worst trade deal the Bills made in their history.

Marshawn Lynch trade from Bills to Seahawks still hurts to this day

Williams listed the worst trade that each franchise has made in its history, and the Bills trading Lynch away to the Seattle Seahawks is unfortunately a solid trade.

"Beast Mode reached his peak in Seattle after the trade. Not only did he become a Seahawks icon, but he was a four-time Pro Bowler with the Seahawks alone (he earned one nod in Buffalo) and helped the team to a Super Bowl victory. The Bills clearly sold entirely too low and deservedly have been criticized for this trade since." Williams wrote.

Now, Williams did also talk about Lynch's off-the-field issues he was facing early in his career so at the time, there was a valid reason to trade him away, especially since C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson were in the mix.

With that being said, with the success that Lynch had in Seattle which included helping them win a Super Bowl, it didn't look great of a trade for the Bills considering that they only got a 4th and conditional 6th-round pick.

Bills were right to trade Marshawn Lynch...but then regret immediately came after

Lynch was traded to the Seahawks in the middle of the 2010 season, having played with them through 2015, and played in just 1 game with them in 2019.

During his prime in Seattle, which included the middle of the 2010 season, Lynch rushed for 6,347 yards and 57 rushing touchdowns. Lynch played a big part in the Seahawks winning 3 division championships, making two Super Bowls, and winning one of them.

To put it into perspective, the Bills only had 1 winning season and finished in 4th place in the AFC East 3 times. So, yeah...the Bills definitely look foolish for making this trade considering how it turned out.
