Early on Saturday morning, NFL Insider Dianna Russini reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars were “listening on calls for WR Brian Thomas Jr.” and it put the NFL world in a bit of shock. The second-year wideout for the Jaguars had an incredible rookie season where he had 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns.
This season has been a bit of a disappointment for Thomas, who has just 27 catches for 365 yards and one touchdown. He has yet to hit the century mark in receiving yards in a game this season. He had four 100+ yard games last season.
Jaguars’ head coach Liam Coen told the media the team “has no plans on trading Brian Thomas Jr.”, but we all know that anything is possible in the NFL.
It would be absolutely shocking if Jacksonville did trade him away, considering the fact that he is on a rookie contract early on in his career and he showed the damage that he could cause against a defense. However, other teams would for sure love to have his services, including the Buffalo Bills.
Proposed trade offer has Bills landing Brian Thomas Jr. for very little cost
Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report put together potential trade packages for Thomas should the Jaguars end up trading him and the package that the Bills would give up would be little cost compared to what it could be. Knox has the Bills trading away WR Elijah Moore and a conditional 2026 2nd-round pick for Thomas,
"In theory, adding Thomas would transform a very good offense into a great one. If the Bills believe that's enough to make them a championship team, now is the time to capitalize. Targeting Thomas would make even more sense than last year's deadline deal for Amari Cooper."Kristopher Knox, Bleacher Report
If all it takes is trading away a conditional 2nd-round pick, that could potentially turn into a first rounder, and a wideout who only signed with the Bills for a year to acquire Thomas, Brandon Beane would hit a homerun with this move. Not only would you get Thomas in the second year of his rookie deal, but he would still have two years on it minimum and that’s if they don’t pick up his 5th-year option.
Buffalo is expected to be in the late picks in the first and second round, so it wouldn’t hurt as much to lose that value for a player like Thomas. Plus, the Bills have not exactly drafted well early on the last couple of seasons so it would make sense to get a proven player now while Josh Allen is in his prime.
