We are less than a week from when all NFL teams have to have their final rosters down to the final 53 players, and this Saturday could be the final game for some Bills players. Buffalo heads down to Tampa Bay for a Saturday night battle with the Buccaneers.
Win or lose, the main goal is to just leave Tampa fully healthy. It also may not be a bad idea for the Bills to actually be somewhat competitive, unlike their Week 2 matchup against the Bears.
Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane’s staff have to then evaluate players and decide who will be dressing during the regular season. It’s not an easy job because we see teams let go of promising players and then they go and succeed somewhere else.
We’ve already seen a bunch of trades starting to happen and the Bills could be a team that makes a deal or two ahead of the regular season. Whether they bring someone in or send someone elsewhere, don’t be surprised if Brandon Beane makes some sort of addition or subtraction via trade.
Proposed trade has Bills acquiring Lions' WR Tim Patrick going into 2025 season
Alex Kay from Bleacher Report created a list of trades of all 32 teams ahead of the regular season, and Kay proposed the idea of the Bills trading away a 2026 7th-round pick in exchange for wide receiver Tim Patrick. Here’s a bit on what Kay said about this proposal:
"While the 31-year-old has had injury issues of his own, he's coming off a promising season with the Lions.Alex Kay, Bleacher Report
Patrick likely wouldn't cost the cash-strapped Bills much, as Detroit has a logjam in the receiving corps and might be willing to move on from Patrick for cheap."
The Bills have been criticized about their wide receiver room the last two offseasons, but Brandon Beane has publicly defended the Bills from the critics. However, adding extra veteran help with someone like Patrick is not a bad idea at all.
If all it costs to add a veteran receiver is a last round pick, why not go for it? In a crowded Lions offense, Patrick still managed to contribute here and there. The only biggest risk on Patrick is that he missed the 2022 season (torn ACL) and the 2023 season (torn achilles) so there is a major injury risk.
