The main focus is on the start of the 2024 season, as teams begin reporting to training camp next week. We have overcome the dreaded wait that happens after the NFL Draft and soon enough, fans are going to be kicking back and watching their favorite team take the field for the first time in 2024. There is so much excitement at the start of training camp for the players, coaching staff, and of course the fans.

While all of the attention is on 2024, the front office for the Buffalo Bills will need to look ahead of schedule and keep an eye on pending free agents that could hit the free agent market next offseason. Brandon Beane and his team will have to evaluate two specific players that are set to hit free agency next offseason.

Let’s take a look at those two pending free agents, who Bills fans should be worrying about losing.

CB Rasul Douglas

At the trade deadline last season, the Bills traded for cornerback Rasul Douglas from the Green Bay Packers which helped fill a massive hole after Tre’Davious White tore his achilles. Douglas was a phenomenal pickup for the Bills, reeling in four interceptions, causing eight pass breakups, and was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 17 after getting two interceptions which included a pick-six.

Heading into 2024, Douglas is expected to be the CB1 for Buffalo in a newly revamped Bills secondary. If Douglas can pick up where he left off, this secondary should have no major issues but it could cause a problem for the front office. Obviously, Bills fans are going to want to see Douglas perform at a high level once again. At the same time, if he repeats his success and Buffalo can’t find a valuable replacement for him next season, Buffalo could be in some trouble as far as a contract if Douglas wants to test the market.

If Douglas starts to play at a high level early on in 2024, it would be very smart for Beane to get a contract extension done before his price continues to rise.

OT Spencer Brown

The 2023 season was a bounce back year for Buffalo’s right tackle. After two years of being rated as one of the worst offensive linemen in the league, Brown managed to stay healthy and improve his pass-blocking abilities. He has a great case to get paid by the Bills due to the fact that Josh Allen is well in his prime and playing at an elite level.

When a team has a star at quarterback, it is crucial to keep continuity on the offensive line. Buffalo’s only consistent lineman that has been with Allen through it all is Dion Dawkins. Providing Allen well-deserved protection from both tackle spots is important for the Bills. As long as Brown doesn’t majorly regress in 2024, Bills fans need to hope that Brown inks a new deal to stay with Buffalo for the foreseeable future.
