Nathaniel Hackett struggles as offensive coordinator with the New York Jets

The popular choice to end the Buffalo Bills run in the AFC East this offseason has to be the New York Jets. They were very competitive last year due to having one of the best defenses in the league but missed the playoffs due to inconsistent play at quarterback with Zach Wilson.

They seemingly addressed that this offseason by trading for Aaron Rodgers and the hope is that he can keep this offense on track with playmakers like Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, and Breece Hall. However, one big wild card is offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

From 2019 to 2021, Hackett was offensive coordinator with the Green Bay Packers and in two of those seasons Rodgers would be named MVP. However, last season Hackett would be named head coach of the Denver Broncos while Rodgers would see his production dip without Hackett on the sideline (however this could also be due to not having Davante Adams to throw the ball too).

As for Hackett, it was nothing short of a disaster in Denver as the Broncos could not get anything going on offense with Russell Wilson under center. He would be fired before the end of his first season and now has re-joined with Aaron Rodgers in New York.

If the Nathaniel Hackett that was in Denver is the one in New York, the Jets offense won't improve enough to really challenge the Buffalo Bills this season for the AFC East title.
