Reason #4: Doesn't factor into the compensatory picks for the Buffalo Bills

For the past few seasons, compensatory picks have not been much of a consideration for the Buffalo Bills. The reason is that the players have not really let their big name players leave in free agency after reaching new deals with players like Josh Allen, Tre'Davious White, Dion Dawkins and Matt Milano.

However, compensatory picks are a bigger discussion this offseason after the team lost linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. The departure of Edmunds to the Chicago Bears is projected to give the Buffalo Bills a third round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, according to Over the Cap.

The formula for compensatory picks takes into account the number of free agents teams lose versus those added during free agency, along with the contract they signed. However, players signed after the NFL Draft are not factored into that formula.

The addition of Poona Ford now gives the Buffalo Bills a player that should play significant snaps this upcoming season without impacting that projected third round pick they should receive for losing Tremaine Edmunds.
