We are a day separated from the Buffalo Bills’ first preseason win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. If you as a fan enjoy defensive football, yesterday’s game was your Super Bowl. However, if you are hoping for the scoreboard to light up, then you may have wasted your time watching this game. At the end of the day, Bills fans are just happy that Buffalo came away with the win.

These games are great opportunities for players to make their case to the coaching staff why they should either start or even just get brought onto the roster for the start of the regular season. Whether it is NFL journey players or rookies, all players are expected to put their best foot forward to keep their jobs.

One player specifically that had an underrated game against the Steelers was rookie running back Ray Davis. The Bills selected Davis in the fourth round this year to help bring more running options to help James Cook. Davis and running back Ty Johnson would more than likely compete for the RB2 spot.

In yesterday’s game against the Steelers, Davis had 8 carries for 58 yards and almost had the team’s first touchdown of the season. He also had the longest carry on the team for 19 yards.

Davis was running hard in between the tackles and showed off some of his physicality. On the other hand, running back Ty Johnson would have just one carry for six yards.

Davis is a great complimentary back to Cook and has been showing that he can do some of things that Johnson can also do. This isn’t to say that Davis will steal a roster spot from Johnson, but it would not be surprising to see Davis go ahead of Johnson on the depth chart.

Heading into the third and final preseason game, Davis should get some last-minute reps before he plays real football against the Arizona Cardinals. Unless the coaching staff is taking experience into consideration, Davis could have a long shot at fighting for the second running back position heading into the regular season.
