Sean McDermott has been the head coach of the Buffalo Bills since 2017 and since then has gone 73-41 and made the playoffs in all but one season of his tenure. Before coming to Buffalo, McDermott rose to fame as the defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers, a job that he held for six years before landing the Bills head coaching gig.

McDermott and the Bills have been together the longest out of the head coaches in the AFC East now that Bill Belichick's time with the New England Patriots is up. The second-longest tenured head coach in the AFC East is Robert Saleh, who was hired as the New York Jets' head coach in 2021. Saleh had spent four years as the defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers and was in the role during the 2019 season when the Niners made the Super Bowl mostly because of their defense.

Mike McDaniel was hired by the Miami Dolphins in 2022 and in both years at the helm, he's led them to a playoff berth. He had previously served as the 49ers offensive coordinator in the 2021 season.

The newest addition to the AFC East is Jerod Mayo, who was hired to replace Belichick this offseason when the Patriots made the decision to move on from the head coach who had led them to six Super Bowl titles. Mayo had spent his entire NFL playing career in New England and joined their coaching staff in 2019.

Who is the cream of the crop in the AFC East and who is bringing up the rear? Let's rank the head coaches in the division.
