Greg Rousseau sends Bills strong contract message with dominant performance in Week 2
By Brandon Ray
During the preseason, the majority of NFL players are playing for something. Whether it is a starting spot or even just a roster spot in general. With the Buffalo Bills, fans know who will definitely be on the roster but the depth at various positions is questionable. There is one factor that Bills fans should keep in mind that some players may even be fighting for potential contract extension.
Defensive end Greg Rousseau is starting to reach the phase of his career where he will be looking for his first massive contract extension. The Bills picked up his fifth-year option this past offseason, meaning that he is tied to Buffalo for atleast these next two seasons. However, Bills fans and Rousseau are hoping that a long-term contract extension will be coming within the next year.
The starters on the Buffalo defense took the field to start out the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2 of the preseason. Rousseau made a statement early on and was the best defensive player on the field by a mile.
He managed to rack up 2.5 sacks and he had three QB hits. Rousseau was making offensive tackle Broderick Jones look lost as Rousseau was slipping by him and just simply bull rushing him.
Greg Rousseau sent a statement to the Bills with his dominant performance
Rousseau has improved his game each season throughout his career with the Bills. Being drafted in the first round by the Bills in 2021, Buffalo brought him to town to become a franchise pass rusher. He has had the opportunity to learn from quality veterans like Von Miller and Leonard Floyd the last two seasons. Now he will be expected to be the top pass rusher of the future.
It would be very surprising if Rousseau plays next week in Buffalo’s final preseason game against the Carolina Panthers. It feels like Rousseau proved his worth and doesn’t need to show anything else. He should just be focused on getting ready for the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1.
With his performance against the Steelers, it shows that Buffalo has the chance to solidify a position that they have lacked for many seasons. Obviously, it will take more than a preseason game to get a massive contract extension. However, it is a fantastic start for the young pass rusher.
