It is completely understanding if Buffalo Bills fans are tired of hearing about the drastic change in the wide receiver room heading into next season. With Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis no longer with the Bills, the biggest question that keeps being asked is “Who is Buffalo’s number one receiver?”

Maybe it’s a great kept secret that Buffalo does not have a solid number one wide receiver. They drafted Keon Coleman who has the potential to grow into Josh Allen’s number one target. Tight end Dalton Kincaid could even become a Travis Kelce-like player for this offense and be the number one option. One player that doesn’t get talked about enough outside of Buffalo is Khalil Shakir, who has the chance to solidify himself as the number option for the Bills this season.

Alex Ballentine from Bleacher Report published a list of seven receivers who are in the best spot for a breakout season and Shakir was listed.

"Shakir isn't likely to absorb a whole lot of the deep targets that Davis had. That role is better suited for Coleman. But it's hard to see anyone else taking the manufactured touches that Diggs used to see."

In the beginning of last season, Shakir wasn’t producing on the field as much as he was down the stretch. Once Joe Brady took over the offense, Shakir was featured more in the plays in which he was depended on to make crucial plays to keep Buffalo’s momentum. His breakout game took place against a very talented Jets defense, catching three passes for 115 yards and a touchdown that put the game out of reach.

There is a great case to be made that Shakir will be Allen’s go-to target and if he can evolve into a solid receiver, having him paired with Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel, and Dalton Kincaid can really elevate this passing attack that people are worried about.
