3. Shane Ray, DE

One of the more interesting and fun stories of the offseason has been the comeback attempt by former first-round pick Shane Ray, who hasn't played in the NFL since 2018. Just the fact that he is attempting to come back, in the first place, is pretty incredible. Heck, seeing him get a deal from Buffalo is an accomplishment in and of itself.

Ray's story is one that makes you want to root for him, that's for sure. But, having not played since 2018 is going to put him so far behind the eight ball that it'll be impossible for him to make the team at this point.

If you look at a rough copy of the team's depth chart, Ray sits dead last at his position. Of course, when healthy, Von Miller is the top dog. Behind Miller are veterans Leonard Floyd and Gregory Rousseau, the latter of which many are projecting to break out in 2023.

The depth at defensive end is incredibly strong, because behind those three are Boogie Basham, Shaq Lawson and A.J. Epenesa. It's highly likely the Bills keep all of those guys, but Ray still isn't next in line. From there, the Bills have Kameron Cline and Jonathan Kingsley. Finally, Ray's name shows up on the depth chart.

It is more than an uphill battle, and maybe he gets lucky and is thrown on the practice squad to make the feel-good story worthwhile.
