While it isn't clear exactly why Stefon Diggs skipped the first day of the Buffalo Bills minicamp, it would seem that it has something to do with his role in this offense (either from last year or the plan for this season).
On the surface, Stefon Diggs has been a big part of this offense since joining the Buffalo Bills as he has led the team in targets, receptions, and receiving yards. Last year, he saw his receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns actually increase in Ken Dorsey's offense from the prior season when Brian Daboll was calling plays.
However, there is even more that Ken Dorsey can do to better utilize Stefon Diggs in this offense. These are three changes the Buffalo Bills could make to the offense this season to make that a reality.
3 ways the Buffalo Bills can better utilize Stefon Diggs in 2023
Stefon Diggs needs to be on the field more
One of the easiest ways to better utilize Stefon Diggs is to make sure he is on the field more. This past season, Diggs played only 77% of the offensive snaps which is the lowest percentage he has played since joining the Buffalo Bills and is tied for the lowest percentage in his career when he played 77% of the snaps as a rookie.
In his first season, Diggs was on the field 89% of the offensive snaps and then in 2021, it dropped to 82%. In the final seven games of the season, there was only one game that Diggs played more than 80% of the snaps and this is too low for one of the best wide receivers in the league.
