Linebackers: Matt Milano, Tyrel Dodson,Terrel Bernard, A.J. Klein, Tyler Matakevich, Dorian Williams (6)
Ever since Tremaine Edmunds left in free agency, the linebacker position became a major question for Buffalo. Aside from Matt Milano, the linebacker room is filled with potential rather than proven talent.
While Klein has been in Sean McDermott’s defensive scheme in Buffalo and in Carolina, can he provide the same impact as Edmunds did? As far as Tyrel Dodson, he is a run stopper who can stop a run, but has not shown to be a pass-coverage type of linebacker which is something that McDermott values in his linebackers.
Terrel Bernard and Dorian Williams are young guys, drafted within the last two drafts and may compete more for a special teams role than anything else (although, Bernard may be in a competition for the starting linebacker role as well). Tyler Matakevich is an ace on special teams who can also play on the defense when called upon.
Even if the Bills stick to a 4-2-5 formation, there could be a rotation happening at linebacker throughout the season. However, one thing for sure that needs to be figured is who will resume defensive quarterback responsibilities come the season opener. Training camp and even preseason will answer that question.
