Dane Jackson on first-team defense

Fans might be surprised, but it was veteran Dane Jackson who got the first team reps at the cornerback two spot. Jackson was the opposite of Tre’Davious White.

Kaiir Elam and Christian Benford make plays with second-team

The second-year cornerbacks, Kaiir Elam, and Christian Benford, were on the second-team defense today. Both made nice plays. In 11-on-11 red zone drills, Elam jumped high and broke up what looked like a sure touchdown catch over the middle.

A few plays later, Christian Benford made what was probably the play of the day. Benford dropped into coverage on Diggs, made a great read on Allen, jumped the route, and intercepted the pass.

Second-team Safeties

The second-team safeties were Damar Hamlin and veteran Dean Marlowe.

Kick Returner Competition

With the unfortunate Nyheim Hines injury, the Bills have an open kick returner competition. Today, it was Deonte Harty, Khalil Shakir, and the freshly signed, Darrynton Evans, fielding kicks. Harty is a former All-Pro returner and it’s safe to assume he has the leg up in the competition to start camp.

Special Teams

Sam Martin’s boot looked good when he was punting. His longest punt of the day was from the 25-yard line to the opposing 21-yard line. Tyler Bass looked good as well, going 3-for-4 in team field goals.

The Bills will be back at it again Thursday Morning at 9:30 a.m. for day two of training camp.
