Ed Oliver

DaQuan Jones isn't the only defensive tackle on the Buffalo Bills who is set to be a free agent next offseason. In fact, there is not a single defensive tackle under contract past this season and that includes former first round pick Ed Oliver.

The Bills drafted Ed Oliver with the ninth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and in his first four seasons, he had 30 tackles for a loss, 14.5 sacks, and 42 QB hits. The past two seasons he has certainly been more productive but he has not had the impact that is expected from a Top 10 pick.

The athleticism and talent are there and it wouldn't be surprising to see him have a breakout season this upcoming season. However, if he does then he probably will get a big contract in free agency that the Bills couldn't match with limited cap space.

On the other side of the equation, and this is where the dilemma comes into play, is that if Oliver continues to play at the level he has to begin his career, the front office probably doesn't want to commit a long-term deal to Oliver.

Either way, this seems to be the final season for Ed Oliver with the Buffalo Bills.

Projection: Ed Oliver leaves in free agency
