Buffalo Bills offensive supporting cast disrespected in latest CBS Sports rankings

For many months now, the Buffalo Bills have had to endure the talks of them and their offseason that played out. With many losses and not a lot of huge gains, expectations are going down for the Bills. So much, that people are deciding whether it is the Miami Dolphins or New York Jets division to win in 2024. Until one of them takes down Buffalo, the AFC East belongs to the Bills, period. 

The biggest “highlight” of Buffalo’s offseason was moving off of Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Their “number one” receiver is out of town, leaving the big question as to who can emerge as Josh Allen’s go-to guy. It’s quite simple, the Bills have that advantage of not having that labeled number one wideout. While it is important to have one, Buffalo goes into the 2024 season with different options as to who can be the number one target.

With having a quarterback like Josh Allen, it is obviously important to have a solid supporting cast. While the Bills may believe internally that they have the right weapons to surround Allen, most football fans don’t feel the same way.

Cody Benjamin from CBS Sports created a list of the top ten QB situations in terms of supporting casts. Benjamin doesn’t seem to be a big believer in Buffalo’s supporting cast, putting them outside of the top ten in the wild card spot.

"For all the questions thrown the Bills' way after their complete overhaul of Allen's receiving corps, this isn't as barren an infrastructure as you might think: Cook is an explosive dual threat out of the backfield, and Kincaid has the upside to be a Pro Bowl pass catcher at tight end. Still, in today's NFL, it's tough to outgun the best of the best when you're lacking a bona fide No. 1 on the outside."

The disrespect is real

While James Cook and Dalton Kincaid received their recognition, Benjamin is downplaying the potential that the Bills have on offense. Khalil Shakir was arguably the number one weapon for Buffalo once Joe Brady took over the offense. Curtis Samuel finally gets an elite quarterback and he had his best season in 2020 with Carolina when Brady was the offensive coordinator.

The offensive line will essentially be the same, even with Connor McGovern moving to center, the line stays the same which was the best protection that Allen has had in his career.

Putting the Bills supporting cast outside of the top ten is a disrespect to what they were able to accomplish down the stretch last season to win the division. This offense is being overlooked and that is what Bills fans should want as the season approaches.
