The NFL Draft is a little over a week away for the Buffalo Bills and they have been gathering those final pieces of information to help inform them on who they want to draft. The focus appears to be on wide receiver but it isn't necessarily a guarantee that is the position they target in the first round.
With that in mind, here are some news and notes from the past few days for the Buffalo Bills.
Austin Johnson should be a lock for 2024 Buffalo Bills roster based on contract
The Bills have two new defensive tackles on their roster for the upcoming season to replace Tim Settle, who signed with the Texans, and Jordan Phillips, who signed with the Giants. One of those two new players is Austin Johnson, who signed a one-year contract and is now reunited with former Titans teammate DaQuan Jones.
After seeing the details of the contract, it would be a shock if he wasn't on the 53-man roster entering the 2024 season. The reason is that his contract of $3.5 million is almost fully guaranteed and the Bills would not gain any kind of cap space if he was cut leading up to the season.
This doesn't necessarily guarantee him a spot and he will still need to prove he can contribute for this team. That was the case a few years ago when the Bills signed O.J. Howard as a free agent and gave him a fully guaranteed contract. However, Howard struggled during training camp and the Bills decided it was best to cut their losses.
