Buffalo Bills linked to Dallas Cowboys roster bubble defensive player

With the preseason officially over for the Buffalo Bills, the next time Bills Mafia will see the team run out onto the field, it will be for a game that will actually matter. There is just one more true step that has to happen before the Bills start their season, roster cuts. Brandon Beane will need to trim the roster down to 53 active players as well form a practice squad.

While Buffalo will be losing players, they will have an opportunity to acquire other players from teams across the league. This is an opportunity for Buffalo to improve their roster based on what other teams do as far as their roster cuts. Tuesday is going to be a big mix of emotions for players and fans as well.

Having been affected with various injuries this summer, the Bills should strongly consider adding more depth at different positions. Alex Ballentine from Bleacher Report created a list of seven players that could be released from their current teams who could help other teams in the NFL. The Bills were listed as a potential fit for linebacker/safety Markquese Bell from the Dallas Cowboys.

Versatility is a key factor for Sean McDermott and the Buffalo Bills

Ballentine makes a fantastic point about the versatility aspect. Since McDermott arrived in 2017, that is something he always looks for in his players. On defense, the Bills run a scheme where they can plug defenders in at multiple positions if needed. Not to mention, Buffalo has had a bunch of injuries this summer including losing Matt Milano for a majority of 2024. While the Bills have a plan at the safety position to replace Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer, it is still a big question going into the 2024 season.

While Ballentine mentions that Bell could be released from Dallas, the Bills should not bank on the idea of acquiring him (if they were even interested at all). However, Bell was part of a Cowboys defensive unit that was purely dominant last year under Dan Quinn. If Bell finds himself looking for a new home, Beane should atleast look into bringing in the versatility and see if Bell can provide value for Bobby Babich.
