The ultimate goal for every NFL team should be to go up on stage in February and raise the Lombardi trophy. At the end of the day, that should be the mindset for each franchise. However, we have an idea as to which teams have a realistic chance at playing postseason football. When it comes to the Buffalo Bills, they have been in the Super Bowl conversation since 2020 and almost made it that season until they ran into the Kansas City Chiefs. Each year since then, they have fallen short in the second round of the playoffs. There are many people who believe that the Bills will take a step backwards and it is very possible. Then there are still the believers who are optimistic about what the Bills can do in 2024.

It is split half and half when it comes to Sean McDermott. He came in and cleaned up the mess that Rex Ryan created and has built a winning culture. The biggest knock on him is that he has not been able to elevate the Bills to the next level. Yes, he got them to a conference championship game but he cannot get over the hump when it comes to beating the Chiefs in the playoffs. While the Bills have their obstacles that they need to figure out, the future still looks bright as long as Josh Allen is under center.

Up until 2020, the Bills have been on the negative side of history. There is the obvious going 0-4 in four consecutive Super Bowls. They had the longest playoff drought at one point (17 years). Since 2020, they have finished last in the AFC East eight times. History has not been too kind to the Bills.

Going into 2024, the Bills are coming off what looks to be a disappointing offseason but they have some advantages that could push them to the top of the division. There is coaching continuity, they have players who have chips on their shoulders, and there are no high expectations because of all the losses they endured in free agency.

The 2024 Bills have the chance to make franchise history

Buffalo has won four consecutive division championships from 2020-2023. Each year has progressively been difficult to win the division but they have taken control of the AFC East. Until a team like the Jets or Dolphins takes the division from the Bills, fans should not think that Buffalo is going to roll over.

Last season was the third time in Bills history where they won four consecutive division titles. The two other four-year stretches were from 1988-1991 and 1963-1966. If the Bills are able to pull off an upset and win the division once again in 2024, it will be the first time in team history they will have won the AFC East five years in a row.

Obviously, the Bills are looking to accomplish more than just a division title. At the same time, it is great to know that this Bills team that is getting a lot of doubt, can make history for the franchise.
