While the 2024 season carries on for the next few months, one of the biggest headlines that will find its way into newsrooms is whether or not the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott will come to a contract agreement beyond this season. There has been major drama surrounding the Cowboys this offseason with various contract extensions that some of their players are looking to get.

The most recent notable one involved their star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who was finally paid a four-year deal worth $136 million. That drama was finally closed, but now the attention goes to Prescott who is going through his second contract drama with the Cowboys. Going into the 2021 season, Dallas managed to sign Prescott to a four-year extension worth $160 million after years of delaying the signing.

For the next few months, NFL fans should prepare themselves to hear about Prescott and the Cowboys every week leading up to the offseason. The one advantage for Prescott is that he will have final choice on whether he wants to stay with Dallas, or explore his options in free agency.

Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report created a list of the best landing spots for Prescott in 2025 should he leave Dallas. On this list was one of the Buffalo Bills’ division rivals, the New York Jets.

"If things don't pan out with Rodgers this season, there's a non-zero chance that he, head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas are all gone in 2025. A new regime would then want its own signal-caller, and Prescott would probably be at the top of the wish list."

The Buffalo Bills need to hope Dak Prescott signs with New York Jets

Prescott has been a solid quarterback throughout his career with the Cowboys, having a 67% completion rate, throwing for 29,459 yards and 202 touchdowns to 74 interceptions. The biggest knock on Prescott is that the pressure gets to him and he can’t get the Cowboys far into the playoffs. While most fans would say Prescott is somewhere in the top 10-15 range in terms of quarterbacks, he is nowhere near the top of the league as other quarterbacks.

If Prescott were to leave Dallas and head up north to the Jets in free agency next offseason, it would be a mistake for New York yet a great sign for the Bills.

The quarterback market is skyrocketing every season and before you know it, quarterbacks are going to start getting $60 million per year contracts. Should the Jets decide to cough up this kind of money to Prescott (assuming that Aaron Rodgers is out of New York), New York will seriously limit their free agency options and even create potential problems with trying to re-sign their own players.

Sure, New York would get a little more stability at quarterback for the foreseeable future. However, it wouldn’t take them over the top offensively at all.
