Boogie Basham

Without question the most competitive position on the Buffalo Bills this summer is going to be defensive end. The talent the front office has been able to put together is rather remarkable with Von Miller and Greg Rousseau at the top while adding Leonard Floyd recently, who has averaged almost 10 sacks a season over the past three years.

In addition to those three, the Bills have A.J. Epenesa, Boogie Basham, Shaq Lawson, and Shane Ray that are competing for what is likely only two spots. In my opinion, the two favorites for those spots is probably Epenesa and Lawson as Epenesa really stood out in limited snaps last year with 6.5 sacks and Shaq Lawson does a really good job against the run.

This puts Boogie Basham, who was a second round pick in 2021 by the Buffalo Bills, in a tough position and facing an uphill climb this summer. When the Bills selected Basham he was viewed as the more "NFL-ready" from how much he played at Wake Forest but he hasn't really been able to make an impact to this point.

In two seasons, Basham has played in only 23 regular season games with 4.5 sacks and eight QB hits. However, if there is a positive to point to is that he has done a good job in the playoffs with two sacks, three QB hits in four games.

There is no question that Basham has the talent to be a key part of the rotation but the Buffalo Bills may not be able to afford to wait for that to come through with the talent they have. If Basham doesn't take a step forward this summer, it wouldn't be surprising to see the team look to trade him.
