Buffalo Bills: 5 best moves of the 2023 offseason
By Ryan Heckman
2. O'Cyrus Torrence will prove to be one of the draft's biggest steals
Speaking of the guard posiiton, look at what the Bills did in the second round. We really cannot say enough about the O'Cyrus Torrence pick, here, because it was arguably Beane's best draft selection all weekend long.
At one point, not too far before the draft, we saw a ton of mocks that sent Torrence to the Bills ... in the first round.
The Florida product was arguably the second-best guard in the draft and no one would have been angry if he had ended up going in the first. But, he took quite the fall, and the Bills committed highway robbery by landing him so late.
Now, going back to Bates, it'll be a battle between he and Torrence. McGovern is a no-brainer. He's starting. Torrence is a costly draft pick. Do we think Bates is going to win that job? It's unlikely. But, the competition will be great for this team over the summer. At one point, a weakness, the guard position is now a major strength. This was one of the best moves all offseason by Beane and his front office.
