1.) More opportunity with last year’s veteran competition gone

In 2022 as a rookie, Shakir sat on the depth chart as a role player behind the likes of Isaiah McKenzie and Jamison Crowder (before injury). Aside from Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis, the Bills receiving core was a rotation setup but Shakir did not see a lot of action on the field.

In 14 games, he recorded 10 receptions for 161 yards and one touchdown. His ceiling was limited but now that both Crowder, McKenzie and even Cole Beasley are out of Buffalo, Shakir will have an opportunity to step up in year two.

The competition that Shakir is expected to face includes free agent signings Deonte Harty and Trent Sherfield, along with drafted rookie Justin Shorter who stands at 6 '4”, 230 pounds. Shakir has a year of experience in this offense led by offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey which should give Shakir an advantage.

Heading into this second year, Shakir may likely see more time in the slot position potentially.
