Buffalo Bills 21 pending free agents in 21 days - defensive back Cam Lewis

Cam Lewis has been an important piece of Sean McDermott's defense for years. He's truly a jack of all trades, master of none. He's been a player to fill in at corner, safety, or nickel. It would be strange to see Lewis in any uniform other than the red, white, and blue of the Buffalo Bills. However, if there is substantial money to be made on the open market, I don't blame any of these guys for taking the opportunity.

I wouldn't mind having Lewis back with the Bills next season and I think he's very likely to re-sign with the team. He's always struck me as a McDermott guy and a loyal player, who wants to see this thing through and be a part of what they are trying to accomplish. If both Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer choose to retire this summer, retaining Cam Lewis becomes even bigger. His experience and leadership would be huge in the defensive backfield, even if he's not starting. He's also a terrific depth player who can fill in at any of the defensive back positions in a pinch when needed.

What might we expect the Buffalo Bills to offer?

Lewis earned a little over $1,1 million last season and I expect that's roughly what he would he could be re-signed for on his next contract. I don't see any crazy raise that would make it difficult for the Bills to match any offer that another team might throw at him. Spotract doesn't have a projected market value for him, but I would expect something similar to his 2023 deal.

Lewis is only 26 years old, turning 27 before the start of the season. He's only played three seasons, after joining the Bills as an undrafted rookie in 2019. Last season, he played in 16 games and 144 snaps, recording 16 total tackles. Lewis earned solid grades from Pro Football Focus, getting an 84.2 run defense grade and 72.8 coverage, scoring an overall of 78.2. Solid grades for a backup, do everything defensive back.
