This time last year, the Buffalo Bills were entering training camp with a running back group that consisted of Devin Singletary, Zach Moss, James Cook, and Duke Johnson. Fast forward to this training camp, and the only running back left on the roster is Cook.

The Bills would trade Moss to the Indianapolis Colts during the season in a package for Nyheim Hines and then in free agency would sign Damien Harris and Latavius Murray. There is a case to be made that the running back is improved compared to last year but there are plenty of questions entering training camp that will need to be answered.

4 questions at running back for the Buffalo Bills entering training camp

Question 1: Is James Cook ready to be the featured running back?

When looking at the position room, it seems pretty clear that James Cook is not only in line for an expanded role but a chance to be the featured running back. The Bills drafted Cook in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft and the former Georgia Bulldogs running back had a slow start to his rookie season.

In the first nine games of the season, he had only one season with double digit touches which was in Week 2 during the team's blowout win over the Tennessee Titans. However, in the final seven games, he had four games with double digit touches and would finish the season with 507 rushing yards, 180 receiving yards, and three total touchdowns.

It will be interesting to see during training camp how much time James Cook is spending with the starters. This could be a good indication on if the coaching staff is ready to lean on him as their top running back.
