Breaking down the all-time Buffalo Bills inside linebackers as voted by Bills Mafia
Tremaine Edmunds (2018 - 2022) - Honorable Mention
Tremaine Edmunds has been one of the most polarizing Buffalo Bills players in the last several years but since coming into the league, he’s totaled over 100 combined tackles every season of his career.
The Bills made him the 16th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech. Many Bills fans wonder what he could have done had Buffalo used him more as an outside linebacker and an edge rusher but instead, the team chose to make him the quarterback of the defense as the middle linebacker.
While many will argue whether that means anything, the numbers are what they are. Throughout Bills’ history, there are, in my opinion, more deserving middle linebackers; however, he received the third most votes regardless.
Edmunds was known largely for his coverage skills and was often used in such as way by defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, that it made it difficult for Edmunds to get those flashy stats, such as sacks. Many opposing coaches and quarterbacks often remarked how difficult it was to pass over the middle due to Edmunds’ incredible size. At 6’5”, he would clog up the middle and make it hard for quarterbacks to drop passes over his head.
Edmunds was voted to the AFC Pro Bowl team in both 2019 and again in 2020. It will be interesting to see how he is utilized in Chicago this coming season, as he signed a free-agent deal to join the Bears.
