Bills finally sign a former Broncos safety (but not the one fans wanted)

Just a day after it was reported that Bills safety Mike Edwards suffered a hamstring injury (per Sal Capaccio), the Bills announced on Tuesday morning that they have signed veteran safety Kareem Jackson to a one-year deal. With Jackson signing with the Bills, linebacker Shayne Simon has been released, the team announced.

Jackson has been in the league since 2010 and was with the Houston Texans from 2010-2018, before joining the Denver Broncos from 2019-2023 (and then eventually splitting time with the Broncos and Texans last season). He has been a quality player in his career and provides a great amount of starter experience, which will be heavily beneficial for this secondary. Adding Jackson during training camp is solid depth for the Bills, especially with how Edwards is considered week-to-week with his hamstring injury.

In Jackson’s career, he has racked up 22 interceptions, 110 pass deflections, 954 total tackles, and 7 forced fumbles. His productivity has never been an issue and his presence should help with the development of rookie Cole Bishop. Depending on how long Edwards’ injury affects him, there is a chance that Jackson could be suiting up for the Bills in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals.

We have seen Brandon Beane make moves like this in training camp before. Injuries occur all the time and it is important for Beane to find the best replacement possible. However, Jackson is not the former Bronco that fans would like to see the Bills sign.

Justin Simmons is still a free agent that is looking for a new home and was a fantastic starter for the Broncos. He was actually one of the only highlights that the Broncos had the past few seasons. However, he more than likely won't sign a "prove-it" deal because he is a very talented player.

When he it comes to Jackson, he will have the chance to keep showing Bills Mafia what he has left in the tank throughout training camp.
