The predictions and expectations are limitless going into the Buffalo Bills’ first season game this weekend. As they prepare for the Arizona Cardinals, we are going to see all sorts of predictions for individual players, as well as what the final score will be.

One of the big stories across the league is how some of the more well-known named rookies will perform. Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams will be watched closely, as will Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. In addition, wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. will make his NFL debut in Buffalo against the Bills so he will be heavily watched as well.

One rookie that will be closely watched by the Bills is Buffalo’s rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman. The Bills drafted Coleman in the second round of the NFL Draft in hopes that he can fill the shoes that Stefon Diggs left when he was traded to Houston. Buffalo could have drafted Coleman in the first round if they wanted to. Instead, they traded down twice, including out of the first round.

The Florida State rookie caught the attention of the NFL with his bright personality and sense of humor early on after the draft. His game film shows us that he can catch the contested catches and be a solid possession receiver. The only true part about his game is that he will need to work on separating from defenders.

As the Bills approach this upcoming game against the Cardinals, Bills fans should keep the expectations low for Coleman in his regular season debut.

Development will take time for Keon Coleman

While fans are hoping that Coleman can become a big time weapon in Buffalo, it won’t happen right out of the gates. Not to mention, the Bills have many other weapons that Joe Brady will look to get the ball too. For the first in a long time, the Bills don’t have a clear-cut number one receiver on the roster. Instead, they have versatility within their receiving options.

There is an argument to be made that tight end Dalton Kincaid will be Josh Allen’s go-to guy at first. Even though Coleman will be expected to make some sort of impact, the expectations should be low for his debut. Buffalo has too many other options in Kincaid, Curtis Samuel, Khalil Shakir, and James Cook to make Coleman the big star on the field.

Bills fans shouldn’t be surprised to see Coleman have an underwhelming performance in his first game. Development takes time and that is more important that one flashy game just to disappoint down the stretch.
